Conservatives Voting to Punish Republicans?
Even though Republicans have let Conservatives down, consider the options first.
My Civics teacher in high school taught us that we should vote for the candidate who had the closest positions to my beliefs. Now I have to admit that in ’92, I voted for Ross Perot. At that time, I was perhaps a bit naive enough to think that he could actually make a difference in this nation, and honestly, I still believe he could have. Sadly, many did the same as I did, and the facts are simple; Bill Clinton became our President and the rest, as they say, is history. This election is leading many Conservative Republicans to feel left out and wanting to make their voices heard in the McCain camp.
I have heard several Conservatives say that there was no way they could vote for McCain. Perhaps it is because of much of his legislation that in reality, didn’t actually get enacted into law. Most recently was the McCain-Kennedy immigration reform act which as we know, received such a public uproar and voices of displeasure, that it went down in a flaming defeat. This shows precisely what power the American voice has when it comes to bad legislation. McCain has promised us that “he got it” when it comes to this issue and I honestly think he has.
He has also promised that we would seat constructionist Justices to the Supreme Court. This one area of the Constitution, left to the President’s discretion to appoint those Justices, can shape the dynamics of this nation for decades to come. Fewer Liberal judges means far less legal opinion becoming the law of the land because of rulings from the bench and a Liberal view of the Constitution.
Let’s make some guarantees that no doubt will happen under a “President Obama” administration.
- A National Healthcare initiative that will put the Healthcare system under the control of the Government and the resulting failure of that system to all Americans. This will represent the greatest increase in the Federal Budget in the history of the nation, as well as the subsequent increases in taxes.
- An increase in individual taxes with the expiration of the Bush tax cuts and the increases in Capital gains taxes. A huge reduction in investment in American business and industry will result in a greater decline in the economy, as well as lowered personal incomes for spending and economic growth.
- Legislation that will remove billions of dollars from the economy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This represents the sell out to bad science with bad policy that will further decimate the economy, result in millions of jobs lost, and undeniable massive increases in energy costs over and above what we are paying NOW.
- Appointment of the most liberal Justices to all Federal courts and more legislation enacted from the bench; perhaps the greatest shift Left to our courts will occur in an Obama administration.
- A totally inept leader in Foreign Affairs who would choose to negotiate with dictators, despot governments, and those who openly desire to destroy the American nation and our way of life, freedoms, and liberties.
However, with McCain, we at least have a fairly good idea that his administration will have opposition from conservatives. Yet, we can also see a promise of fiscal responsibility from Washington, which is far better that the Obama promise of more government, higher taxes, and loss of freedom to select our healthcare for ourselves.
When we decide to punish the bad behavior of Republicans with a vote against McCain, we are going to repeat the mistakes of the 2006 election. We voted (or not) and got a House with a do-nothing agenda, other than more of the “hate Bush” rhetoric, a Senate who has a “the war is lost” leadership at it’s helm, and no chance whatsoever to stop them. All of this will happen as we “punish” those Republicans who have chosen to disregard the Conservative voice of the party.
Now, more than ever, it is time to vote with our HEADS and not our hearts. My heart tells me that as a Conservative, a major part of the Republican party doesn’t represent my views well. My head tells me that the Democrats are diametrically opposed to everything I believe is right with the America that I love dearly. Now I ask you, which part, the head or the heart, should win this November as you cast a ballot??
I can only ask that this time, you use your HEAD and at least pull the lever with the knowledge that we as Conservatives can voice our displeasure as we see the crop of up and coming TRUE Conservatives beginning to retake our party. Our displeasure with the Republicans need not lead to the election of Obama, who without a doubt, will head this nation into an abyss that we may not ever be able to recover from.

Oh…the poor GOP wants my vote now…after insulting the true conservatives throughout this campaign?
OOPS…sorry, shoulda thought of that before treating Ron Paul like a dog while laughing at his wisdom.
McCain is no better than Obama…and you are just kidding yourself (or are you trying to kid us?) if you think he is. The GOP has left the conservatives…not the other way around.
Constitution Party…here we come!!!
Stephen,
I can understand your angst, yet “punishing” the party for the sake of making ourselves feel good isn’t the answer. The one thing I can assure you of, things in this nation under an Obama presidency will be far worse than a McCain administration.
To vote 3rd party in THIS election assures an Obama victory, and is exactly the lesson that 92 should have left us with (along with 2006). Ron Paul, even with some good ideas, didn’t appeal to the Conservatives for one reason…his inability to take a somewhat radical viewpoint and translate that into ideas Conservatives would accept.
Caonservatives CAN retake the party, but NOT by voting AGAINST the party. We CAN field far better candidates and become actively involved in assuring that happens. THIS should be the rallying cry of Conservatives, and NOT the 3rd party voting, the formation of another party, or any other idea that won’t unite the GOP BACK to conservatism. As I said, it’s that anger we have for being left that will destroy “us”.
Think about it…isn’t that what Democrats are hoping for???…that destruction of ALL serious opposition to their quest for power and “change” we are going to WISH that the nation hadn’t embraced to begin with. What better way to do that than to divide and abolish us to a disheveled party. We MUST unite and reorganize as that takes a LOT less work and becomes effective faster.
George Washington warned us to steer clear of the party “faction” system. We conservatives should do just that instead of suckling at the teat of the Neo-Conservative moderate controlled Republican party. We were meant to come together as a nation of principles & Morals while we swear our allegiance to God & the Constitution of the United State of America.
Our main party choices suck BIG time. On one hand, we have the double talking. closet Marxist in the sociali– uh, I mean Democratic Party. On the other hand, we have the tired old liberal masquerading as a moderate right-leaning Republican.
My preference for a true Reagan conservative, and you might not agree, is Alan Keyes. This is a man tht is a common sense, tell it like it is, constitutional warrior, battling as an independent. He’s all about God, the Principles, Morality, and everything else a true conservative would fight for. He left the republican party, or rather it left him, they called him to try out for the Constitution Party, but lost it to Chuck Baldwin, and Howard Philips the founder of that party, used the whole anti-war rhetoric on him.
Now he is running as an independent but his supporters want to get him on the ballot under a fairly new party called America’s Independent Party…I just don’t know about the party thing idea.
How many people plan to vote for Obama just to ‘punish’ the Republicans?…
Are you thinking that the Republican party should have nominated a ‘real conservative’? Lots of people over the years have lamented that John McCain has ‘played nice’ with legislators on the other side of the aisle too often. …
